Good Times at the KyAEA Fall Conference 2007

This year's Fall Conference was held at the Drawbridge Inn in Ft. Mitchell, KY on October 19th and 20th. The conference was a wonderful opportunity for arts educators throughout the state to share ideas, make art, and get to know each other. Regional and divisional meetings allowed teachers to meet with others within their area and grade level, a rare occurance for the often isolated art teacher! Many hands-on workshops gave us valuable lessons and techniques to use in the classroom. And our keynote speaker, Andrea Knarr, spoke of her journey that led her to teach printmaking at Northern Kentucky University. Coming soon, (hopefully), to this blog will be some of the lesson plans, highlights and activities that were presented at the conference. Any requests?

Why KyAEA Needs A Blog
Welcome to the KyAEA Official Blog. We have been having some difficulties with our official website at KyAEA.org for several months now, and cannot add new information. While we have fabulous people working hard on fixing the website and updating it, this page will be our temporary online home. There is still great information and resources on the website that you can access, but please note that all deadlines and dates are not current at this time.
If you are a member of the KyAEA, this is your resource for connecting to other art teachers and getting news and updates of what's happening in art ed throughout the state. If you are not a member, why is that? You should join! We have a fantastic conference every fall where you get to interact with other art teachers, make and view artwork, learn new strategies and techniques, and have a fantastic time getting PD. We also have great programs like Mini-Grants, All State art competitions, and regional workshops. If you like what you see, please contact us. You can get information from these fantastic and creative people:
Membership: Lisa Jameson
President: Michelle Lustenberg
Conference Coordinator: Judi Haynes

What is KyAEA?

The Kentucky Art Education Association (KyAEA) was established in March 1945. It is proud to be the nation's third oldest art education organization. The KyAEA is a nonprofit, all volunteer non-salary Art organization with its own constitution and elected board of directors. Its members are comprised of active and retired P-12 teachers, Art Advocates, and Higher Ed Art Students and Educators statewide. Each fall, KyAEA members have gathered to participate in a major two-day convention for sharing and professional development; smaller regional professional development meetings are presented throughout the school year. Also, the KyAEA sponsors special shows for students within the state to compete and exhibit artwork, provides an ongoing mini-grant opportunity for its members, and strongly supports it student chapter members. The mission of the Kentucky Art Education Association (KyAEA) is to advance art education through professional development, service, advancement of knowledge, and leadership. For more information regarding KyAEA contact our new president Michelle Lustenberg.
